The same friend who talked me into Loch Ness, also talked me into this race (after a few beers in Inverness celebrating finishing the marathon. The logic was straightforward – “you’ve done the training, it’s a good first ultra marathon, and then you’d finish the year with 2 marathon and an ultra under your belt”.
I entered the next day.
The race went well and I really enjoyed being off the roads. I walked some of the hills (I’d read up a little on ultra marathon technique) but crashed badly at mile 27 and walked most of the last 3 miles.
