Marathon

28) Marine Corps Marathon, Washington, DC, 30th October 2016

[To expand] Lucky to get a place through the ballot at the first attempt (had entered Chicago and Marine Corps thinking I might get one or the other so was pleasantly surprised to get both).

Park in town and run to start, 2.5 miles. Drink coconut water and eat banana at the start.

Set out on PR pace with pace maker. Lost him on bridge to Pentagon City. Run walk last part. Cramp on final hill. Hot day and pushed it too hard at the start.

Amazing experience to run through DC.

Finished in 3:10:48.

Learning point

Fixating on a pace doesn’t work. Think I put too much pressure on myself, and don’t account for terrain or temperature.
